Just Call Me Sodium Petothal

It's been quite a while since I last posted here. Like, QUITE a while. And I'm not exactly sure why, because it isn't like I haven't been a) using the internet in the last 6 months or b) writing. I've been writing a lot. Ok, maybe not a lot. But I've been writing.

But not really.

I always feel silly posting on this blog and I don't quite know why. Maybe it is that I am uncomfortable with blog culture, that I feel like there are so many 20 something girls out there with blogs that me writing her makes the whole thing cliche, maybe it is because of people I once worked with in the blogging world and how I feel uncomfortable that I can't talk about what went down for fear of starting some sort of strange, not at all relevant, internet fight where mean things are said (though what could be more hurtful than being totally ignored and cut out of a person's life unceremoniously, I don't know). Maybe. A sea of maybes. A long string of never ending maybes.

So here's the deal: I've decided to say fuck it.

Fuck it to the entire thing, to all my hang ups about blogging to "Oh you can't swear here" and "Oh, don't talk about that here" and on and on and on. The biggest thing I've learned since turning 25 is that you just have to do you. Do what is best for you. My incredibly smart roommate put it to me this way--this is a time to be selfish. It is the only time in your life when you are allowed (and even expected) to be selfish.

My 20s are a gift. And I don't intend on wasting any more of it.

I'm going to speak my truth, even if that truth makes me uncomfortable or unpopular. At 25 years and 4 months, isn't it time to be truthful?

Dispatches From Inside the Whale

I'm not dead, I promise, I've just let New York swallow me up.  And I've got to tell you, it has been pretty great.  I'm finally beginning to feel like a grown up, like everything is finally sinking in.  I'm moving into a grown up apartment at the end of the month, and I'm working and paying bills like a grown up, and I'm finding new ways to enjoy my life, and I'm working to cherish my friends and the opportunities that come along.  I can't believe it is March already, I feel like I've been here forever, not just 6 months.  SIX months (six on Sunday, in fact).  I am happy and I have no idea what's going to come next.  And that is just about the most exciting thing I could think of.

Back in New York

a picture from my cab ride home early this morning.
I'm back home in NYC after a quick trip to my homeland of California.  I love the holidays and being able to go home to beautiful California "winter" (it was like 60 degrees the entire time) was lovely.  I had WAAAAAAAY to much fun and have returned to New York a content lady who is ready to start the new chapter in her life.  That new chapter starts tomorrow, when I start my new job.  WAHOOO!  I'm super excited.  I've got more posts brewing so keep an eye out.  If the past two days are any indication, 2012 is going to be a great year, full of happiness, laughter, friends, and family.  And I can't wait.

Haven't Posted in a While

Mostly because I've been teaching (circus!) and writing reports (assessment!) at work but ALSO because we are just about 2 weeks away from the release of the first issue of Atom Magazine.  And I've got to tell you, I am so unbelievably proud and excited for this first issue.  It has been more work and more fun than I could have ever imagined.n  Keep an eye out on our website for more details about downloading and buying your own print copy!

Tonight, however, I leave all the work behind because I'm heading out to NYC for the weekend.  I haven't been back since November and my heart is aches for that concrete jungle.  Don't get me wrong, California is lovely and beautiful during the summer while NYC usually smells like garbage.  Going to New York in the hot hot summer is not a completely natural choice but no matter, I love it anyway.  And (almost) all my friends from college will be there, plus old friends from childhood and new friends (Jackie!).  It is going to be just the best.  My heart has already grown 3 sizes in anticipation.

I promise to post more when I get back.  Until then, enjoy the sweet sounds of Ivan & Alyosha, one of my new favorite bands (thanks to Meg for posting a video of theirs the other day).

Atom

Monster! For no reason, really.
Sorry for being MIA on the bliggity lately.  Summer has arrived in California, which means summer camp has arrived which means that I am spending my days spinning plates.  Literally. I'm literally spending my days teaching children ages 4-12 how to spin plates.  And juggle.  It's pretty crazy but also amazing.  Thus, the lack of posts.

I do want to let you all know about Atom Magazine, a new project I'm working on with two fabulous old friends of mine.  Our first issue will be out around the end of July and it is going to be AWESOME.  Truly.  And I'm not just saying that.  Go here for more information and updates as we put the finishing touches on this issue.  I am beyond excited to share this with all of you, and beyond excited to say that you'll be able to order printed versions of the magazine online!  They are going to be beautiful.

I promise to do better with posting in the coming weeks.  PLUS, I'm going to my favorite place in the world, New York City, July 8th-11th so I'll definitely have a lot to share.

Away for a Bit

I've been away from the blog dealing with some stuff, but that doesn't mean that I'm not finding awesome things to share with you.  Like this:

(thanks, Collosal Art & Design, for sharing)

And this, which is part of a photo series by tinyevilhog:

(found through StumbleUpon, my favorite thing ever)
Regular (or as close to regular as I ever get on this thing) posting will resume soon.  Fun, exciting things coming down the pike, so keep an ear out.

I'm Not Dead, I Promise

I've been making sweet treats. Note the classy dinosaur sprinkles.
I know I've gone into blog hibernation (blibernation? Hiberblogtion?) this past two weeks, but don't think that that means I wasn't thinking about all of you.  Quite the contrary, I thought of you all often and would then plan to write and then sit down at my computer and inevitably either fall asleep or get caught up watching Downton Abbey (if you haven't watched it yet, go to Netflix Instant immediately and watch it.  You won't be sorry).  I promise to do better in the future.

Now, let's get right down to it, can you believe it is March already? March is going to kick my ass, I can tell you this right now.  First off, I begin a 2 week stretch of teaching tiny kinder people tomorrow (we will be learning about mountains together, it should be a hoot).  Next, I head out to Chicago for a week of galavanting and meeting/schoomzing/ass-kissing with potential employers (My darling Marissa Schwartz will be there as well, so it all comes out in a wash, really).  Then The North Pool, my favorite show of the season, opens and I go on a whirlwind tour of the valley to prep students to see this show.  And let us not forget The Violet, who's first issue comes out around the end of the month (did you notice the fancy new button?  Thanks, Camilla, for making it look so lovely).  All in all it should be a great, busy month that I am looking forward to.  What is the saying?  I've posted about it before?  "March comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb."  It has never been proven to me to be true, but perhaps things will be different this time.  I have high hopes.  In fact, I spent tonight making yummy, teensy cupcakes (see above).  Any month that starts with baking can't be that bad.

What does March hold for you?
