The Smile List

I'm pretty much peeing myself right now.  Why, do you ask, dear blog friends? because Simon and Garfunkel have just announced a North American Tour.  It's like all my dreams have come true.  Granted, there are no shows announced yet that are even in the realm of close to me, but I'm not worried.  It has been my dream to see them in concert since I was a tiny little girl.  I'm totally going to find a way to go and then I'm going to get there and cry the entire time.  It's going to be AWESOME.

Geez, do I sound like an old lady.  ANWAY...

(there's a segue somewhere in here, I'm just too excited about what I'm about to write to find it)

Do you ever find yourself looking at something or listening to something or watching something and then, pretty uncontrollably, you find yourself smiling?  And I'm not talking about a little half-hearted smirk, I'm talking about teeth showing, face wide, eyes bright smiling.  This is one of my favorite feelings ever--when something reminds you of a treasured memory and you uncontrollably and open heartedly smile and your entire body, your soul, gets all warm and happy.  Here, my friends, in brief, is my Smile List.  In fact, let's get a whole bunch of happy out there on the internet--if you want, share your own Smile List and I'll put it up here.  Shoot me a little email--ashleigh.r.hill(at)gmail(dot)com--with five things that make you smile uncontrollably and I'll put it up here.  Sound good?  Ay?  Good.  Now, here's my list, in no particular order...

1--Drumlines.  Yeah, I'm not kidding.  I think they are the most awesome things ever.  Crank the sound, play this video, and try not to smile.  (ok, it's also possible that I love this because it is Paul Simon plus a drumline.  Oh hey, look, a segue!)

and then go here and watch these guys, especially the end.  Four Words: Drum Sticks on FIRE.

2--This:

There is a long explanation of why this is funny, and it involves New Years Day 2010 (and, therefore, slight hangovers), several people I've known since we were fetuses, and a social studies teacher in high school whose name wasn't actually Roosevelt (it was Rudolph).  To the 5 other people on the planet who truly understand why this is funny--I love you guys.  Life is definitely less fun without you around all the time.

3--PUPPIES.  Ok, seriously, just look at this puppy:

Aren't you smiling?  Doesn't it just make you want to smoosh its face?  (Note: If this video does none of those things for you, it is possible that you are a robot).

4--This place:

5-- The fact that this photo even exists makes me unbelievably happy.  This is a picture of me and my advisor, Nan, the day I graduated from NYU.  Oh, internets, if you only knew about this woman.  She is one of my favorite people in the universe.  She is a mime and a clown (I'm talking professionally) and generally eccentric and magical.  I wouldn't have made it through NYU without this beautiful woman.

At this moment, these seem to be the ones at the front of my mind.  This list is certainly not complete and will be added on to as time goes on.  Happy Sunday, dear blog friends.  May it be joyful.
